Dear Neighbours,

Two big updates I want to share with you all:

Safer Streets Now – Our roadways must be built for safety, not speed.
In light of the increased number of fatalities this year, Council approved a motion Councillor Wilson and I tabled calling for immediate interventions to improve safety for all users along Main Street and King Street.

The motion also directed staff to create an implementation plan to convert Main Street from one-way to two-way, integrating a Complete Streets redesign. Converting Main to two-way will require working with Metrolinx and the Ministry of Transportation, as well as, consultation with the public which, when done well, takes time, meaning we are likely to see the conversion in place later.
Staff will also reassess all remaining one-way streets in the city utilizing the street conversion framework identified in the Transportation Master Plan and report back to Council.

Woodlands Park Multi-use Court Glow Up – “The Rally Court”

Over the past few months, my office has been collaborating with Hamilton’s beloved band, the Arkells who have fundraised $80,000 for an epic glow up (aka upgrade) to the multi-use court at Woodlands Park.

Max Kerman reached out to me in January with the idea to invest in giving Hamiltonians the opportunity to enjoy a professional grade, publicly accessible court for basketball. This funding will allow for new professional level basketball backboards, spectator bleachers, acrylic court surfacing, and an upgrade to the existing light fixture.
We aim to launch the new court the week of the Arkells hometown concert “The Rally” at Tim Hortons Field on June 25. A dollar from every ticket sold at that concert will be donated to Indwell to support non-profit housing and the supports residents need.
