Dear Neighbours,
I hope you are all enjoying the summer weather and increased number of community events outdoors in our neighbourhoods.
As you will have noticed, a number of new pedestrian activated crossings have been installed in the GALA neighbourhood. I allocated Ward 3 discretionary capital funds a few years back to enable safer access across key roads to connect residents to schools, parks, community services and libraries. However, due to the pandemic, the work to install was delayed. You will find three on Wentworth Ave, one at North Central Park, Cathy Wever Elementary, and Cathedral Secondary. The one on Barton St and Milton Ave enables safer access to our beloved Barton Branch library.
I also wanted to remind residents that my office is hosting Ward 3 Office Pop Ups across the ward to help connect with residents one on one to listen to issues that matter most to you and identify the next steps to help address them. Though this was on our work plan for Spring 2020, the pandemic required us to pivot to virtual platforms, and this is the first summer we are cleared to implement it, with COVID-19 safety protocols. Through the pandemic, we have been conscious of the digital divide and recognize not all our neighbours have been able to connect with us for support on city service questions, concerns or ideas. Below is the July schedule:
• Tuesday, July 12 – 1-3 pm
430 Cumberland Ave
• Thursday, July 14 – 6:30-8:30 pm
JC Beemer (68 Victoria Ave N)
• Tuesday, July 19 – 1-3 pm
St. Matthew’s House “Box” (414 Barton St E)
• Tuesday, July 26 – 1-3 pm
Bishop’s Park (91 East Ave S)
