Green Venture, alongside the Barton Village BIA, the GALA Community Planning Team, Adele Pierre Landscape Architect, and the City of Hamilton’s Ward 3 are excited to be continuing the Depave on Barton program this fall on the SW corner of Barton St E and East Ave N (316 Barton St E). This site was included in the initial Depave on Barton proposal to the City in 2019, and was suggested by community members as a space in need of some transformative greening.

The site, bordering Black Dog Pet Salon, is a combination of privately-owned and public property. Having more of a square shape, the area has quite a bit of potential as to what can be included, compared to some of the more narrow boulevard depaves completed over the past 3 years. After a public engagement session and opportunity to weigh in on the next depave location, the project partners are now inviting the surrounding community to be a part of the planning and design process, in hopes of creating a place of shared vision and enjoyment in the Barton Village.

The process has started with the opportunity to share ideas and opinions on the site through an online google form, which can be accessed by scanning the QR code, or through the link in the following Eventbrite description. The results of this form will be shared at a public planning session at the Powell Park Clubhouse on Tuesday, September 6th at 6pm. You can register to attend this event at depavebarton.eventbrite.com.

In this planning session, we will aim to develop a rough site plan highlighting main features and considerations at this site. The plan will be provided to our Landscape Architect and developed into a to-scale draft plan that meets public building guidelines and accessibility requirements, which will then be submitted for approval. The process will move relatively quickly, with a goal to have the site completed by late fall. Please share the registration link and online form ASAP with neighbours and friends who you think may be interested in participating!
