Wrapping up Fall

We had a busy fall this year with three great events in our community.

On October 21, 2023, we held our annual fall community cleanup across the city. It was a lot later than usual and a lot colder but that didn’t stop over 120 Volunteers from coming out to clean their alleys, parks and neighbourhoods. We picked up almost 400 bags of garbage to help Keep Hamilton Clean and Green. As a courtesy to our neighbourhood, GALA rented a bin from FastBin so everyone could clean out their basements, garages and back yards for an additional 2 tonnes!

Beautiful Alleys is proud to be a partner with Team Up To Clean Up to provide the supplies to do this. We are committed to ridding our spaces of the garbage and debris that is tossed. If you need supplies before our Spring Cleanup or you’d like to rent a bin, contact hamiltonalleys@gmail.com.

We did double duty that day and partnered with CN Rail for the CN Track Gang cleanup at Birge and Cheever. Over 25 dedicated volunteers came out to clean up almost 8000 pounds of illegal dumping. Illegal dumping is a crime and our partners at Crime Stoppers want to hear from you. You can call and report anonymously at 1-800-222-8477

People met strangers, made friends and enjoyed a fabulous lunch from Macys Food Mart afterwards. We’ll see you all again on April 20, 2024!

October 28, 2023 saw us close out the fall activities with our first annual “Falloween” event. It was a truly beautiful fall day, warm and sunny, that saw over 100 children and grownups come together to celebrate. Our partners, Barton Village BIA, Rotary and Wever Kids made sure there were crafts and games, candy, treats and prizes for our costumed kids. Community volunteers from GALA and the Keith Hub made sure everyone had fun and entertainment from Matt Ellis and Noise Pollution kept the crowd rocking! The general opinion was “can’t wait till next year!”

We’ll wrap up the year with another new event for GALA. In partnership with 541 Eatery, we will invite Santa to our monthly meeting for Breakfast with Santa on December 2, 2023. We have lots of planning to do for next year so be prepared!
