Kids’ Programs:

PA Day January 26th. Drop by the branch to create with our STEAM kits and toys at Imagination Stations from 10am -12noon and get crafty with our Craft Cart from 1pm-5pm (supplies provided).

Family Literacy Day January 27th is always a cause for celebration at the library!

Celebrate with us at a Snuggle Up and Read Family Storytime at 10:30am, Board Games and Puzzles from 1-3pm, AND, back by popular demand, HPL will be launching the always popular Bookmark Contest.

The Bookmark Contest will run until March 16th. Pick up your contest submission form at the library (or check out the digital submission form on our website) and start designing! All winning designs will be professionally printed and distributed throughout the City. The Bookmark Contest is open to all Hamilton residents ages birth to 18.

Calling all Teens:

NEW! Looking for a quiet place to study? Teen Study Hall is the space for you. Free WIFI, access to computers, and loads of free curriculum-based resources all in one place. Every Tuesday from 2:30pm-6pm. Additional days will be added during exam time make sure to ask staff about those in February.

More programs for kids:

  • STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) Learning Lab: Try your hand at bridge building challenges, explore optical illusions, and experiment with chemistry. Drop by every Wednesday at 3:30pm starting January 10th. Ideal for ages 8-12 years.
  • Whether you love math or need some extra practice go on a fun Math Quest Tuesdays from 3pm-6pm. Complete 10 math activities (supporting the Ontario Curriculum) and get your name on Barton’s Math Quest Wall of Fame.
  • Explore & Play Calling all toddlers and preschoolers! Bring your grownups and explore, create, and play with our activity stations. Ideal for ages 0-4. Tuesdays at 11:30am
  • Family Storytime: Bring the whole family to storytime. Foster early literacy with stories, rhymes, music, finger plays and flannel boards at this interactive program. Same day, new time: Wednesdays at 11am. Ideal for ages 0-4.
  • Craft Cart: Fridays from 3pm-5pm: We will provide the supplies—all you need to bring is your imagination and make a cool creation to take home. Supplies provided, ages 4-12
  • Saturdays are library days! We are all fun and games with LEGO Club from 10am-12:30pm and Board Games and Puzzles from 1pm -3pm

Adult programs:

NEW! Come out to our new, weekly Adult Creative Circle. Escape the cold and isolation of winter. Meet new folks, socialize, and create with colouring pages, crosswords, and puzzles. Supplies and community provided. Every Thursday from 12-1pm.

Get a new tablet or eReader over the holidays? Need help loading it with free eBooks, eAudiobooks from the library? Bring your devices to our Drop-in Tech Help every Monday from 1-2pm and staff can show you how.

Or upgrade your computer skills by registering now for one of our Thursday morning (11am-12noon) Computer skills classes. No experience or computer required.
