A year or so ago, we had no Planning Team and no community paper. We reinstated both in February and March of 2023. Both were well received and both enjoyed a short lived success. Then, attendance at monthly meetings fell off, no one stepped in to take on the organizing and planning so now we meet periodically when an event or occasion warrants it and if I have time.

Our paper, The GALA Herald, was wildly accepted, articles flowed in and ads were abundant enough to cover our printing costs. And then it stopped, we didn’t get our regular updates submitted, no one wanted to advertise or deliver and we had to stop printing. And again, no one took any interest in any of the positions available to help us put a paper together or get it delivered.

We’ve had some ability to publish on-line at www.galaherald.ca but with no help and a busy schedule, I haven’t been able to accomplish that easily. As you can see, many of the articles have been provided by me. Because I think it’s important to share the news of the neighbourhood.

GALA has been busy though and community support is there for our events; Easter, Halloween and Christmas. The loyal and dedicated volunteers come out to participate in our community cleanups. We are involved in City decisions around our parks and services and we believe in community.

We will continue to make every effort to engage and participate. We can’t promise monthly meetings but we have committed to June 1, 2024 at Powell Park Clubhouse from 10am to noon.

We can’t commit to a monthly on-line newspaper but will do our best to keep you informed. The bottom line is that community runs on the fuel of volunteers. Please consider how you could help. Contact me at galaherald@gmail.com
